The new traffic light on N 46th St. at Aurora Ave. is now in operation.   SDOT installed the light after noticing the steady increase of traffic jams in the intersection due in large part to westbound traffic that stacks up on 46th waiting to turn left on Aurora. The Burke-Gilman Trail will be closed intermittently starting Wednesday as Seattle City Light continues to replace old wooden power poles with steel ones and replace the 200-foot steel lattice towers. The trail will be closed between Fremont Ave. N. and Phinney Ave. N. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Work will not be done on

Remember the man who was arrested several days after a woman was raped in her Wallingford home in October? The crime had many Wallingford and Fremont families on edge until police made the arrest. The suspect has reportedly killed himself in jail just before he was scheduled to testify in court.

A small group of poets formed around Lenin Saturday morning.

Small “chapbooks” of 20 poems written about Lenin were scattered about the statue, and several of the poems’ authors read them aloud.

One of them, Rebecca Elliot, won a contest to have her poem, “This Is Not V.I. Lenin,” bronzed in a plaque that will be placed at the foot of the statue later this fall. Click through below to read her poem and see more photos…

We drove by the entrance to Gas Works Park a little after 10 this morning. Lines were already forming at the entrances in preparation for tonight’s Chase Family Fourth fireworks show. Organizers are expecting as many as 50,000 people — 15,000 more over previous years due to the cancelation of the Elliott Bay fireworks show.
