8.17 Update: Irene, wife of the scooter victim, checks in once again with some positive news.
To all of you who have posted to this blog, thank you for your concern and kind words, prayers and good wishes for my husband. It seems that it is working. He is much more alert and we are making progress – slowly – but progress is progress and I am so grateful. One of the best things to come out of this is the knowledge of how much goodness is out there. I so appreciate all of you who have stepped forward as witnesses and tried to help me piece together the story. We have two daughters, 19 & 24 who also share in the relief that the information has given us. Just knowing is helpful.
My husband and I once witnessed an Aurora Bridge jumper from the water and the image didn’t leave my mind for 2 weeks. Those of you who still cringe when you relive seeing my husband flying off his scooter and hitting the ground, please take heart in the fact that his bruises are healing and we are moving forward.
Again, thank you with all my heart for being so good to us.
Update 1: The wife of the man on the scooter contacted us, asking for anyone with eyewitness information of the crash to contact her. Unfortunately, her husband remains in the hospital unable to communicate what transpired so any help by people who were there is appreciated. Her email is in the comments.
Midday Thursday, a driver attempted a left turn from northbound Fremont Av N to westbound N 34th St. and collided with an man riding a motor scooter southbound on Fremont Av N, approaching N 34th St. According to the SPD Blotter, the motor scooter operator suffered potential life-threatening injuries. He was treated at the scene by Seattle Fire personnel then immediately transported by Medic Unit to Harborview Medical Center.
A one-year old infant was present in the sedan at the time of the collision. The child was evaluated at the scene by Seattle FD personnel. The child appeared uninjured and did not require further treatment. The adult female driver was evaluated at the scene for signs of impairment by an SPD Drug Recognition Expert Officer. No signs of impairment were detected. The driver of the sedan was released from the scene.
