The 23-year-old who hit a crowd of people outside Fremont bars in his car early Saturday morning appeared in court on Monday.

He is expected to appear before a judge at the jail Monday afternoon and prosecutors will then have to decide whether to charge or release him by Wednesday.

You can read our story about the incident here. The driver is jailed on suspicion of vehicular assault after allegedly hitting pedestrians with his Subaru station wagon near 36th Street and Phinney Avenue North.

Police have said alcohol may have played a role and some witnesses claimed that the driver tried to flee the scene but was stopped by onlookers. The car was said to be moving so quickly that some pedestrians were thrown over top of it.

No update yet on the condition of the victims, one of whom was in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center following the crash.
