Viaduct closure Open House Tonight In Ballard

In nine days, the majority of the Alaskan Way Viaduct will be closed for nine full days. Starting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 21st through 5 a.m., Monday, October 31st, the 110,000 vehicles that use the viaduct each day will be looking for alternate routes.

Even if you don’t drive on the viaduct, this closure will most likely affect your commute.

Learn about the closure and commute options from 6 to 8 this evening at an open house hosted by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) at Adams Elementary School (6110 28th Ave NW). At 6:30 p.m., Seattle City Councilmember Tom Rasmussen, Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program Deputy Director Matt Preedy will make some remarks.

Northbound closure schedule

  • Northbound SR 99 between the West Seattle Bridge and South Royal Brougham Way will be closed around-the-clock beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31.
  • Northbound SR 99 between the South Royal Brougham Way on-ramp and the Battery Street Tunnel will open from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and for special events at CenturyLink Field.

Southbound closure schedule

  • Southbound SR 99 between the Battery Street Tunnel and West Seattle Bridge will be closed around-the-clock beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31.

During the closure, crews will begin demolition of the structure’s south end. More information can be found here.
