Milstead & Company has opened on N 34th street, right next to the History House. The coffee shop, which opened its doors two weeks ago, has plenty of space for customers to hangout and enjoy some good coffee.

Andrew Milstead, the owner, says that so far the response from customers has been positive. “I’ve had a lot of great conversations with people in the neighborhood about coffee and with each day there are some new faces,” he said. “It’s been a lot fun.” Milstead has worked in the coffee industry for eight years and previously managed Urban Coffee Lounge in Kirkland.

Although there are many coffee shops in the neighborhood, Milstead & Co. is going back to basics by making coffee that’s simple. Milstead says that he wants to show people how unique and tasty coffee can be on its own. “We’re just trying to do plain coffee as best we can,” he said. The coffee shop has a limited menu, but this ensures that customers receive a good cup of coffee. “It takes the extra effort to make sure each cup is of the highest quality,” he added.

Milstead & Co. is bringing in coffee from the Northwest and West Coast. They are also the only coffee shop in Seattle that offer beans from Coava and Intelligentsia, two roasters that have little representation in the area. “Producers and farmers put a lot of work into producing high quality crop, Milstead said. “It’s our privilege to be able to sell the finer coffees because we know that money is going back to the producers.”

Milstead is passionate about his craft and is excited to share his love for coffee with the community. “I’m a big believer in education through experience,” he said. “It’s just exciting to see people get excited about a great cup of coffee.” His goal is to create a fun and comfortable environment where customers can learn and experience new drinks.

For someone who studied Pyschology in college, Milstead never imagined he would be opening his own coffee shop. He hopes that people go to Milstead & Co. to have fun and try coffee that isn’t found elsewhere. “That’s really what we’re about,” Milstead said. “Making sure each cup is the best that we can do.”

Milstead & Company, 770 N 34th Street, is open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday- Friday, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.
