Watching the World Cup

If you follow soccer (or football, as the rest of the world calls it) in Fremont, you’ve probably seen a match or two at the George & Dragon (206 N. 36th St.). It is going to be THE place to watch the World Cup. If you’re a diehard, you’re probably getting ready for the first match to be shown today, South Africa vs. Mexico at 7 a.m. The complete list of matches you can see at the pub can be found here. The pub jokingly – or maybe not – prefaces the schedule by this: “PLEASE DO NOT PLAN WEDDINGS,BIRTHS OR VACATIONS JUNE 11 TO JULY 11 2010.”

Or, you could try Brouwer’s (400 N. 35th St.), which is staying within its normal operating hours. Check out the schedule of World Cup matches you can catch at this Fremont mainstay, beginning today at 11:30 with Uruguay vs. France.

For a more non-Anglo feel to your football, you could also try the Azzurri Vino Bar (223 N. 36th St.), which is also showing the matches live. And, you’ll probably get commentary from owner Michel Zacco.
