Asteroid Cafe plans to close

By master · August 27th, 2008 · 1 Comment

With an $8,000 a month rent and monthly bills piling up, the owner of the Asteroid Cafe can’t keep up. The neighborhood Italian joint on Fremont Ave. and 36th St. will close its doors as soon as this week. “I have enough for payroll, but not enough to pay vendors and I’m three months behind on my taxes,” Marlin Hathaway told the Seattle Times. But things might not be as bad as they seem. A potential buyer has stepped forward that could bail Hathaway out if everything works out. We’ll keep you updated…

the asteroid has been one of my favorites since it first opened in its wallingford location. we'd go there for many a special occasion and also for an impromptu dinner at the bar on friday evenings. you can imagine how upset i was when i heard it was closing!

i have been twice since it was bought by the new owners, and have had a very pleasant experience! in fact, many of the staff is the same and the recipes tasted just as delicious as ever.

the last time i was in was the end of december. has anyone been in the last few months?
