For about a month, residents and those who work in downtown Fremont have been able to enjoy a new dining choice: Sinbad Express, from the same family that runs Aladdin Falafel Corner at 45th Street and University Way NE.
This blog wrote about it just as it opened, on April 5. As a follow-up, I checked it out today.
Khaled Odallah is part of the family business, and was behind the counter today when he told me that since Sinbad replaced Taco Del Mar 25 days ago, business has been blessed – especially at lunchtime. But, he said, dinners are steadily gaining momentum as well.
I had a hankering for falafel but I was also really hungry, so I ordered one of the most popular combinations, No. 21: the “Mazzat Veggie Plate,” which consists of “homus, baba ganoug, dolma Falafel, 1 pita, lettuce and tehini andn tazatiki sauce.” Delicious. I’m no food critic, but I do know what I like and this combo hit the spot.
Other dishes that he said customers are clamoring for include several kinds of sandwiches: Falafel, gyro lamb & beef, kabab and chicken or beef shawarma – and yes, on the menu it’s spelled differently than on the sign outside! Consistency in spelling never seems to be high for restaurants.
And if you’re looking for a little special treat, try the chocolate roll baklava. Yummy!
Sinbad Express is located at 3526 Fremont Pl. N., behind the Lenin statue. It’s open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m.
