Bluebird Ice Cream Keeping It Local In Fremont

November 30th, 2011 by master

I finally got a chance to swing by the new Bluebird Ice Cream location in Fremont today (3515 Fremont Ave. N). Snapped some photos that you can check out below.

They’ve got a full selection of ice creams but there’s a few notables that I wanted to share in case you want to make your ice cream eating experience as Fremonty as humanly possible.

Theo Chocolate Chunk
Made with chunks of Seattle-based Theo chocolate, the world’s only certified organic and fair trade chocolate maker.

Caffé Vita Coffee
Roasted two blocks from their store on Pike Street. So, technically not from the Fremont Vita, but, same difference.

F.A.B. Almond Cherry Brownie
Vegan/gluten-free with chunks of Flying Apron Bakery brownie, from across the street.

Check out what else is going on at Bluebird on their website or stay abreast of new flavors on their Facebook page. Of course, stopping in for a scoop is still the best way to get to know them…

Hotel Hotel Grand Opening Party Pictures

July 15th, 2011 by master

Fremont’s new upscale hostel, Hotel Hotel, hosted its grand opening party last night as it officially opens for business today. Tons of folks stopped by to check out the fancy, new digs. It was great to see so many of the area businesses involved as well. Pie was serving mini-pies, Flying Apron was serving food as well and Bluebird Ice Cream was out front with their cart.

(Incidentally I spoke with the Bluebird folks and they’re looking at an early-August opening right now).

Check out some photos from the event, which included circus performers, a DJ and a dude wearing a giraffe head for some reason. Then again, when do you ever need a reason to wear a giraffe head?

Cool Whirld Bringing Froyo To Fremont

May 25th, 2011 by master

When it comes to dessert, Fremonsters have a plethora of options available to them. Royal Grinders has your gelato fix, Pie’s got you covered when it comes to pie, gluten free folks can snack at Flying Apron and Simply Desserts has, well, simply desserts.

But how bout a place dedicated to frozen yogurt?

Cool Whirld is looking to fill that void when they open at the spot previously-occupied by Finch and Sparrow (3420 Fremont Ave N). While there isn’t much information out there on the company, according to their sign on the window they’ll be bringing their frozen yogurt outfit to town in “June/July 2011.”

Stay tuned as we learn about the new froyo joint in town.

‘Quirky’ Fremont Featured By BBC

January 27th, 2011 by master

If you happen to notice an influx of English, Irish, Welsh and Scottish accents in Fremont over the course of the next 6-12 months, you can probably thank the BBC for it’s story on Fremont that’s currently featured on their homepage.

The article is a rundown of Fremont for tourists who might be interested in stopping by on their trip to Seattle.

This neighbourhood, less than five miles north of the heart of downtown Seattle, continues its legacy of public art, everyday weirdness, and off-the-wall-events inclined towards nudity and costumes. Yet its popularity, soaring rent prices, new luxury condos, and inundation of high tech company offices have transformed it into something a tad different than its tie-dyed forefathers and mothers anticipated.

Fair enough.

They also name-check the Fremont Sunday Market, Hub and Bespoke, Flying Apron Bakery, Uneeda Burger, Brouwer’s Cafe, ETG Cafe and hey, this blog! The post itself comes courtesy of Lonely Planet, though with all of the Brits currently planning to visit us now, I don’t think we’ll be too lonely in our own little universe for long.
