Bluebird Ice Cream Keeping It Local In Fremont

I finally got a chance to swing by the new Bluebird Ice Cream location in Fremont today (3515 Fremont Ave. N). Snapped some photos that you can check out below.

They’ve got a full selection of ice creams but there’s a few notables that I wanted to share in case you want to make your ice cream eating experience as Fremonty as humanly possible.

Theo Chocolate Chunk
Made with chunks of Seattle-based Theo chocolate, the world’s only certified organic and fair trade chocolate maker.

Caffé Vita Coffee
Roasted two blocks from their store on Pike Street. So, technically not from the Fremont Vita, but, same difference.

F.A.B. Almond Cherry Brownie
Vegan/gluten-free with chunks of Flying Apron Bakery brownie, from across the street.

Bluebird Fremont Grand Opening This Friday, November 18

Fremonsters have been waiting patiently while Bluebird Ice Cream prepped it’s new shop at 3515 Fremont Ave. N. The sign out front has teased us with the idea they would be open this past summer for months now. Finally, the wait is over.

Bluebird Microcreamery will open its THIRD location this FRIDAY 11/18 in the Fremont neighborhood, at 3515 Fremont Ave N (at the corner of 36th and Fremont next to The Dubliner.) We’ll have all of our special fall ice cream flavors, as well as our best sellers, to give the neighborhood a taste of what we’re all about. Make sure to check out our new Ice Cream Truck which will be parked our front (available for events.)We hope you’ll come see us for a treat this weekend.

As a special new venture for us, we will be operating a nano-brewery on premises, where we’ll be making hand-crafted ales and sodas for floats on tap. (Yes, we do beer floats at our Capitol Hill location, as featured in Huffington Post.) You’ll also be able to fill growlers for your fridge at home, as soon as we receive certification.

Between Pie’s pies, Cool Whirled’s frozen yogurt, Flying Apron’s muffins & cookies, Simply Desserts’ desserts and now Bluebird’s ice cream, I better not hear any more complaining about lack of dessert options in the 35th and Fremont area.

Not that I was hearing any…just sayin…

Hotel Hotel Grand Opening Party Pictures

Fremont’s new upscale hostel, Hotel Hotel, hosted its grand opening party last night as it officially opens for business today. Tons of folks stopped by to check out the fancy, new digs. It was great to see so many of the area businesses involved as well. Pie was serving mini-pies, Flying Apron was serving food as well and Bluebird Ice Cream was out front with their cart.

(Incidentally I spoke with the Bluebird folks and they’re looking at an early-August opening right now).

Check out some photos from the event, which included circus performers, a DJ and a dude wearing a giraffe head for some reason. Then again, when do you ever need a reason to wear a giraffe head?

Bluebird Bringing Locally-Sourced, Artisan Ice Cream To Fremont

As you know, Bluebird Ice Cream is coming to Fremont. We had a chance to speak with owner Josh Kessler-Reynolds about the store, how they plan to work with other Fremont businesses and what kind of yummy goodness we can expect.

Why did you choose Fremont for your 2nd shop?

Fremont is the Center of the Universe, right? Apart from that, it’s just such a dynamic neighborhood. I can tell you that when friends and family visit, my girlfriend and I always include an afternoon in Fremont as one of the stops. The neighborhood just seems to offer a lot. From a more specific business perspective, the new neighbors [Hotel Hotel, Pie, Dubliner, etc.]…provide a fantastic compliments to Bluebird Ice Cream.

On the kind on ingredients Bluebird uses...

For those unfamiliar with Bluebird: it’s small batch, locally-sourced, artisan ice cream. We strive to make all of our flavors the-best-you’ve-ever-had: If you try a sample, you’ll want a full scoop. We source locally, taking advantage of our natural surroundings (like fruit from Remlinger Farms) as well as the wealth of like-minded artisan food makers in Seattle (Elysian Stout ice cream, anyone?) It’s ice cream made from local dairy, with all-natural and organic ingredients.

Along with Theo, who provides Bluebird with their chocolate, what other Fremont businesses do you plan to work with?

We love Theo. There are more special collaborations in the works between us. Pie and Ice Cream is an obvious match, so I would hope for some exciting things to happen between our two businesses. We’ve done some stuff with Homegrown, and I consider those guys to be great colleagues of mine. I hope for further collaboration and cross promotion in the future. Caffe Vita just up the street will be collaborating with us, and next door to that Bluebird Ice Cream will soon be available at all Via Tribunali locations. When we have our grand opening (Aug 1st? No promises.) We’ve already been discussing with the Pie girls and the guys at the Hotel Hotel hostel upstairs about hosting some kind of block party, along with the Dubliner, so keep your eyes out for that. I’d encourage anyone who has a place that they want to serve Bluebird ice cream to send an email (bluebirdseattle@gmail.com) and we’d love to supply your favorite restaurant, market, or grocery store.

Bluebird Bringing Ice Creamy Goodness To Fremont

We recently noticed that almost all of your dessert options were covered in Fremont. However, when it comes to dessert, there’s always room for one more.

If you attended the Fremont Fair, you might have noticed Bluebird’s Ice Cream Cart or even sampled some of their yummy ice cream. If you liked it, good news. Bluebird is opening up a “microcreamery” on Fremont Ave in between Pie and the Dubliner.

This will be Bluebird’s second store, their first is located in Capitol Hill, And if you’re not familiar with, they’re all about local and fresh ingredients.

The ingredients we use are almost entirely local, organic whenever possible. The dairy comes from all-natural, hormone-free cows in Washington and Oregon. The stout is brewed at the Elysian, and the coffee is roasted at Stumptown. All of the fruit comes from the Northwest. The baked goods are from Seattle bakers that we think supply good-quality, local, natural products.

The plan is for the store to be opened at some point this summer. In the meantime, follow along with Bluebird on Twitter and Facebook.
